Open House with GSO
The GSO’s contribution to the River Run Centre’s open house on September 30th 2012 was a rousing success.
Stationed in the spacious Canada Company Hall, Artistic Director Judith Yan’s innovation of having the orchestra present, playing parts of two scores, having some players speak about their instruments, and having kids–and parents–sit in the orchestra as we played, was brilliant. And, during breaks, it was fascinating to see our musicians chat with kids about our instruments. Some adventurous souls tried a trumpet, or trombone, or cello, or cymbal or . . . . 300 people visited the orchestra.

“Meet the Strings”
The kids (and parents) were introduced to the fascinating world of String Instruments by GSO harpist Sharlene Wallace, and senior violin student, Soojung Yu. They then joined the audience for the second half of the concert, to watch and hear these instruments in action. Click on photo to enlarge
