Where to cut your own Christmas tree around Guelph!
If a fake Christmas tree just doesn’t cut it anymore and you’re looking to make a family tradition in the great outdoors, look no further.
The lifespan of a well-watered cut pine is about a month, so now is the time to get outdoors and find the perfect tree for your home this holiday season.
Luckily, Guelph is surrounded by tree farms that offer cut-your-own options to make this festive outing a memorable experience for the entire family.
Chickadee Christmas Trees in Puslinch offers cut-your-own that are 6 to 7 ft. tall and pre-cut trees up to 10 ft. tall. Check their website for the updated schedule this season before you go. The gift shop is now permanently closed but they continue to offer fresh hand-crafted wreaths, tree stands, and bough bundles. The farm is located at 6639 Wellington County Rd. 34.
Madeira Farms, Rockwood, is located around 15 minutes away from Guelph at 5369 Wellington Rd. 27 (5th Line). It has been family owned since 1997 and offers cut-your-own Scots pine, white Norway spruce and Fraser fir, Balsam fir, and Canaan fir trees, starting at $55. Open Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Located near Ariss at 5873 8th Line East, Robinson Christmas Trees offers a selection of cut-your own white spruce mostly in the 6 to 7 ft. range. Some white pine and Balsam fir are up to 9 ft. tall. Supplies are limited again this year and there’s a limited selection of smaller spruces available. Farm opens on Dec. 3 for the 2022 season.
Forestell’s Christmas Trees, located on Side Road 20 N, Puslinch, offers a traditional family experience with a selection of white spruce and Scotch pine. Owned and operated by Dan Forestell, Forestell’s Christmas Tree Farm was established in 1993. Stroll through the fields to find your perfect tree (saws provided) and then warm up by the outdoor fire. Visit the historic log cabin and enjoy the breathtaking views. The place is already open for the season this year Wednesdays, Thursday, and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Trees regardless of the size are $60 each.
If a natural Christmas Tree is your choice and you don’t want to cut it down yourself, there are many local businesses and Greenhouses offering fresh trees.
Then the fun starts, gather the family, put on the Christmas tunes, enjoy some hot chocolate or an adult beverage while you decorate that fresh Christmas tree. Don’t forget to take proper care of a natural tree with lots of water and TLC.
